Each month we intend to put a number of popular questions to our vets relating to general pet health and care. Whilst in no way intended to replace a professional diagnosis, we hope that the information and advice provided on these pages are useful. There is also a number of excellent fact sheets created by the Blue Cross pet charity, to the right of this page.

Dog Questions:

How often should I take my dog for a check up?

Healthy adult dogs should be checked at least once yearly. This should usually coincide with his/her vaccinations. Puppies and dogs over 8 years old should be examined more often. Ideally, puppies are examined at least three times in the first 6 months to ensure proper development on both medical and behavioural grounds. Examining older dogs every 6 months allows for early diagnosis of disease. Regular check ups also allow your vet to get to know you and your dog.
